Aretino was one of Titian’s closest friends and most passionate of admirers…. The poet took it upon himself to present the maestro’s work, in glorified terms, to the world… it was Aretino who originally applied the term “Pittore Divino” to Titian….. He wrote, “Titian in his supreme excellence is not just divine, as the world takes him to be, but absolutely godlike and without equal—-like a man who backs up the liveliness of his coloring with the consummation of draftsmanship in such a way that his creations look as though they were not painted, but real.”

Sat, 24 Mar 2012 18:35:00 stages of the motion picture camera…. he created a camera shutter for Edward Muybridge to capture movement more accurately through still photography…. but with these photographs of Whitman, he seemed more interested in documenting the physical presence of the old poet rather than documenting how he moved… above all, Eakins was a figurative realist painter….. sadly, although he fought being restrained, American society did not offer him an environment where he could easily exercise his creative passion….

Sat, 24 Mar 2012 14:34:00
